Begin EP
For the seventh instalment of Urban Scrumping Records, we present the highly anticipated 'Begin' EP; the debut release from Bristol based producer Apathesis. This talented newcomer has brought a refreshing approach to dubstep, drawing inspiration from his love of minimal house, grime, and trance.
The EP begins with the beautifully haunting sounds of 'Whatever' where shuffling beats and deep sub bass support a cascade of falling melodies and soaring lead lines which induce a hypnotic effect on the listener.
The instant 2 step grooves of 'Begin' follow with a rolling bassline, warm uplifting pads and evocative melodies not often found in dubstep.
'Wake Up' provides the EP with a deep bass workout and meticulously placed beats, which will kick-start any dance floor. Featuring the sonic textures and sparkling melodies so integral to the Apathesis sound, this track pushes the techno influenced sounds of Martyn and 2562 in a new direction.
The penultimate track 'Rain Dance' takes the EP into a post-apocalyptic underwater sonic wasteland. The tribal rhythms, eerie vocals, rising synths and deep brooding bass provide the darkest moment of the EP.
'5am' brings the EP to a close in anthemic fashion. The grime inspired beat and supernatural voice combine with the trance-inspired arpeggios and analogue pads to great effect to bring this dynamic release to its climax.
Apathesis is destined for big things in 2009 and beyond, with follow-up material already finished and notorious DJ sets shaking up the clubs of Bristol, it won't be long before this talented young producer is taking the scene by storm.
